Welcome to SMATH!
Hello LJA Families,
Welcome returning and new students to the second year of LJA! This is going to be a very rigorous, hands-on and engaging year for your LJA scholar. Science and Math are going to explore and uncover the understanding of global and local ecosystems, integers, rational numbers, decimals, ratios during the first nine weeks of school.
Each scholar will enhance their knowledge through the following types of instruction: shared inquiry discussions, hands-on active learning, multi-sensory interactions, student to student interaction, discourse and reflective thinking, readings and research. Enjoy learning through the eyes of your child as they leap into a new journey of discovering truths and falsifications within a scientific and mathematic lens.
The weekly unit map for the quarter will be posted soon…
Learning Target Passport - This year we will be working on creating an environment that extracts the ambiguity of assessment! The girls will receive learning target passports that will help them track their own learning. This passport should stay in her Smath binder or one of Smath notebooks. At the top of the passport you will find the Essential Question(s) for the quarter. Weekly, the students will reflect upon the learning and identify where they are in regards to mastery of each learning target. Students will receive a stamp once they have successfully “secured” the learning target. Revision of problems and ideas are encouraged so that all students find success within the classroom.
Please check the homework tab weekly. Students will recieve Smath homework on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Assignments given on Tuesday will we due Thursday, and assignements given on Thursday will we due the following Tuesday.
Wednesdays will be specifically geared to increasing the confidence and competence of LJA Scholars around test taking strategies and content literacy.
As always, please contact Ms. Colleen colleenaa@laurajeffreyacademy.org or Ms. Lizzie lizzief@laurajeffreyacademy.org if you have any questions.
We are looking forward to a great year!
